About the Artist

Hi! My name is Fred Ambel and I would like to thank you for visiting my spray paint art web site. I started doing spray paint art in 2004 when I was actively involved in the art drop-in program at Sanctuary in Downtown Toronto. Prior to that, I have over 15 years as an amateur/semi-professional photographer, which helped me develop my sense of composition. What really inspierd me to do sray-paint art was when I saw an artist outside the Eaton Centre one summer evening make space/new age-type scenes using spray paints and pot lids as stencils for planets, as well as crumpled-up newspaper and all sorts of other things to make a painting in about five minutes before our very eyes.

My first few paintings took me considerably longer than just five minutes, but I was having fun at trying new tricks and techniques. Gradually, I have been adding to my painting supplies new colors and new gadgets. Since I work full-time during the week, I regret that I don't have as much time as I would like to make paintings but I do manage to find time on the odd weekend to generate a painting or two, maybe three to keep my portfolio growing.
